Day 277 | Taste of Home

With busy life that we lead in 21st century, traditional pickles are fast disappearing as we depend on store-bought pickles for the convenience. But with of much of our culinary history at stake, it is worth every penny to forsake the shortcut methods of store bought convenience for the time consuming and painstaking, yet most rewarding experience of making our own pickles at home. Because what we are really doing is preserving memories, family recipes and the taste of home! Up next on http://monsoonspice.com/

Day 260 | Nostalgia

There is nothing glamorous or fancy about Bhutta, but it does have that great sense of drama when the corn on the cob is slowly roasted on a bed of red hot charcoal. Occasionally the red charcoal catches fire and the little tongues of these burning flames licks the sweet kernels with great hunger! In between the roasting you hear a sudden pop noise when few kernels which greedily plumped up bit too much under the loving touch of flame! With some kernels charred and smelling of smoke, the Bhuttawala dips the lime piece in a bowl that contains the salt and red chilli powder mixture or if you are really adventurous, in a bowl of chutney made of super spicy and potent green chillies ground with sea salt. The little swirls of smoke rising from the freshly roasted Bhutta when the Bhuttawala rubs the lime wedge is a pure magic to all senses! Magic, yes, magic is the word I would use for this humble Bhutta that never fails to live up to its high expectation of taste sensation!

Day 239 | Deep Fried Twins

Nippattu and Kodubale are the classic deep fried indulging snacks from Karnataka. Festivals are the best and most perfect reasons to indulge in what otherwise are deep fried sins! This year I am making an extra effort to cook all these special festival recipes for Lil Dumpling to keep him connected to his Indian roots! So far it's DH who is benefiting the most while his wife is sweats in the kitchen;)

Day 238 | Snacking On!

Roasted corn on cob, fultu Desi style! On other note, you must possess one quality if you want to become a food blogger and it is patience! There are times when you just find it utterly difficult to not to sample the food while photographing for the blog! In my case it was today when I completed the photo shoot under 5 mins as I just couldn't wait to bite into this spicy delight!

Day 225 | Pickling

Because it's that time of the year! Back at home in India pickling is not just about food, but a lot more. It's about families coming together, sharing family recipes, and creating memories. You are not just preserving the fruits and vegetables for year but preserving family traditions for generations!
